To help fill the void left by the decline of traditional journalism, Truthdig was founded in 2005 as a progressive online magazine. Reaction from readers and the journalistic and publishing communities during the five years of Truthdig’s existence has been extraordinary. Although a small venture in financial terms, Truthdig has expanded its readership dramatically and has won major awards including the 2011 and 2010 Webby Awards for Best Political Blog and multiple honors from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Los Angeles Press Club. In creating an online model for serious journalism, Truthdig has reached out to some of the leading writers and reporters of our times. Among them are the distinguished historian and novelist Gore Vidal; Pulitzer Prize-winning correspondent Chris Hedges, a Truthdig columnist; Gbemisola Olujobi, former editor of The Guardian, Nigeria’s biggest and most influential newspaper; and Ron Kovic, veteran activist and author of “Born on the Fourth of July.” Our political correspondent, Bill Boyarsky -- a former Los Angeles Times city editor and a lecturer at the University of Southern California -- monitors the political heartbeat in his original Truthdig columns. Bringing you this kind of journalism is far from inexpensive. We’re now appealing to readers to help with our mission. If you are getting good value out of Truthdig, if you want to see our site grow as a fresh voice in political journalism, if you want to continue to see incisive, original blogging on important matters, please make a donation in any amount. Your dividend will be knowing that you've bolstered a crucial work and helped Truthdig continue to deliver a progressive, high-quality online journal of news and opinion. We invite you to become a member of the Truthdig team. Thank you for your support. |
